CONSERVATION & REFURBISHMENT
19-35 REGENT STREET, CAMBRIDGE
Status – In Planning
Client – Downing College
The site comprises of 19-35 Regent Street owned by Downing College in its entirety. Downing College Developments Ltd are working with MPM Properties Ltd and Endurance Estates Ltd to deliver a high quality re-development, which responds to the immediate architectural/ townscape context and Regency Character. The principle of the proposal is the significant improvement for the site, as well as the wider historic core, through a redevelopment of an apex site in prime location between Regent Street and Parker’s Piece. The site is currently occupied by poorly maintained buildings, which had been heavily and incoherently manipulated over the years. The intervention is a resolved architectural solution, uplifting this part of the street scene through a high quality design, respecting the historical context, while delivering architecture of contemporary standards of sustainability and quality of spaces. The site encompasses buildings 19-35 along the Regent Street, and whilst the proposed design maintains individual plot divisions and treating each part as a separate terrace elevationally, internally it is essentially a singular floor plan with retail unit on the ground floor and student rooms on floors first to third, in total 26 en suites.
